Vienna Manufactory, Empire period, 1817, dated. Extremely rare and refined collector's cup from the circle of Anton Kothgasser
Description:
Very rare and refined cup with saucer, finely painted and gilded commemorative piece with pure gold brushstrokes, depicting, with meticulous precision, the romantic scene of the view of Pressburg Castle (present-day Bratislava) and the Danube with sailors and travelers. Molded and gilded handle in the shape of a snake (a common motif during the Empire period). Museum-quality work dated 1817. Painter Jakob Ehrenreitter, No. 36 born in Vienna in 1772 - number impressed on the bottom of the cup (ref. Wiener Porzellan 1718 - 1864, Mrazek - Neuwirt). An extremely rare work, part of a limited series with paintings of cityscapes of the main cities of the Habsburg Empire of the time. Made during the golden period of the Viennese imperial manufactory, where the best painters from the circle of the famous Anton Kothgasser (who was marked with No. 96) worked. In Italy, a work from this series, depicting Piazza del Duomo in Milan, is kept in the civic collections of applied art at the Castello Sforzesco. Another example, depicting Piazza Unità in Trieste, was recently donated to the Civic Museum Sartorio in Trieste (click on the link at the bottom of the page to see it and learn about its fascinating history).
