Wooden sculpture of Madonna and Child
Description:
Gilded wood sculpture from the 18th century, depicting the Madonna and Child, a devotional subject widely spread in Baroque and late-Baroque Italy. The figure of the Virgin is represented in an upright position, with a composed and solemn attitude. The face is oval, with regular and calm features, and her gaze is slightly lowered: a sweet but meditative expression. The drapery is one of the most interesting elements: the folds are ample, soft, and well-defined. The Child Jesus, held on the Mother's left arm, is depicted in a natural and lively pose. The body is modeled with a certain anatomical attention, and the gesture of the arm suggests an affectionate interaction with the Virgin, reinforcing the human and familiar tone of the scene. Particularly noteworthy is the octagonal base, decorated with plant motifs and mouldings: an element that lends stability and solemnity to the sculpture and recalls models commonly found on 18th-century wooden altars. Dimensions: height 42 cm, max width 19 cm, depth 13 cm Price: 850 euros
