Elegant 17th-century refectory table with original patina
Description:
Rare and fascinating refectory table. Austria or upper Friuli, 17th century. Of interesting constructive technique that facilitated its movement in the "practical" logic of the German people. The solid walnut top, thick and heavy to provide stability, rests on lyre-shaped supports, typical of the period, entirely disassemblable into 6 parts fitted together and secured with large removable pegs, in solid maple wood. The fascinating work is in original patina, with no parts replaced and/or integrated in later eras. This type of furniture was placed in castles and noble residences of the provinces of the Austrian empire, often used for rest and hunting. Patina and signs of use consistent and corresponding to antiquity. With masterful shellac finish applied with a pad using a museum standard technique. Top measures cm. 99x101, H.cm.78. It is interesting how Austrian tastes and customs spread at the time also in the Italian Alpine area, in fact a similar table, but larger, is preserved in the Colloredo Castle of Monte Albano, in Friuli (UD), (published A. Miotto, Nobiltà del mobile Friulano). In compliance with the provisions of the New Code of Cultural Heritage, the selling company provides, at the time of sale, a detailed written photographic guarantee of originality and provenance of the works sold. The data with which the works are described and then contained in the written guarantees are expressed determinations resulting from accurate and documented technical/historical/artistic investigations, even of expert significance.
