Vienna, circa 1810, rare Empire commode with caryatids, curved front. In almost perfect condition. Refined piece of furniture in the rare style of the early Viennese Empire, veneered in blond walnut feather, with details in thuja feather and elegant maple inlays. Caryatids in carved linden wood, lacquered and gilded with gold leaf, as typical of the Empire style in Vienna. The lower drawers curve outwards, as was the case in the most precious and representative pieces. The work is in first patina, consolidated and with a shellac finish applied by pad using a museum standard technique. The hardware, very refined in embossed brass with palmette and architectural motifs typical of the period, is almost entirely original of the time. The only three missing central nozzles were masterfully reproduced in casting from a lost wax model traced from the others. Dimensions: 125 cm wide x 95 cm high x 60 cm deep.
