Elegant "Portico" Mantel Clock in Mercury Gilt Bronze – Ad. Mougin Refined small mercury gilt bronze table clock, characterized by a portico architecture with clear "Retour d'Egypte" inspiration. The object stands out for the quality of the casting and the richness of the decorative apparatus. Artistic Description Structure: Two side uprights in the form of Egyptian caryatids support the circular case. The figures rest on quadrangular bases decorated with human feet, a detail typical of the most refined Neoclassical taste. Cimasa: The top is crowned by a majestic eagle with spread wings, a symbol of power and nobility. Decorations: The uprights are enriched with acroteria in the form of pine cones, festoons of fruit, and acanthus leaves. The elliptical base features a bas-relief frieze with swans drinking from a fountain, contained within floral volutes. Pendulum: The lenticular pendulum is finely pierced and decorated with swan head motifs and palmettes. Technical Characteristics and Dial Mechanism: High-quality Parisian movement stamped "AD. MOUGIN - Deux Médailles". Adolphe Mougin was a renowned French clockmaker based in Montbéliard and later in Paris, awarded two gold medals at the Universal Exhibitions for the excellence of his mechanisms. Dial: White enamel with Roman numerals for the hours and a minute track. The center is embellished with a guilloché gilt bronze disc with a sunburst motif.
