Recorder, Morse telegraph receiver, late 1800s, G. Hasler
Description:
Telegraph recorder used in telegraph offices from 1860 until the mid-1950s. The recorder received the Morse signal from the transmission station. The incoming current, passing through the recorder's coils, generated an electromagnetic phenomenon of attraction, attracting a small iron armature to which a pen is connected. The strip of paper ran at a constant speed, guided by a spring mechanism. This system made it possible to print the received message on paper as proof of receipt. This recorder is one of the first models used in the post offices of the Kingdom of Italy. The recorder is made of brass and rests on an oak wood base. Late 1800s. Built by "G. Hasler Berna". Working and in excellent condition. G. Hasler was an important Swiss company based in Bern known for the production of telegraphic and telephone equipment. The Morse recorder is equipped with a wooden case, built later, used for transport with a spare roll of paper, cleaning tools, ink and cables inside.
