Important gilded and richly carved palace torchieres, central Italy, 17th century. (70cm x 140cm h)
Description:
Beautiful and interesting palace torchieres - sconces in gilded and finely carved wood. These decorative elements were placed at the entrance of a courtyard or palace, given their size of 140cm in height x approximately 70 in depth.
The carving is rich and elaborate, we see plant racemes following one another, bringing out vine shoots and bunches of grapes.
These are rare objects, especially due to their state of preservation, given that they are almost intact with the original gilding that is perfectly preserved and at most only needs to be cleaned.
Period: Mid-17th century
Area: Papal State
