This imposing trumeau, made of burl and inlaid wood, was created in 18th century Genoa. The Baroque structure has undergone some conservative modifications in the 19th century, including the back. It consists of a lower section with drawers and an upper glazed section, closed by two front and two side doors.
The lower portion, curved on the front and sides, and resting on four Baroque bracket feet, features three large drawers and two smaller ones above. The drawers and sides are veneered in rosewood and decorated with rosewood stringing. The keyhole escutcheons are richly decorated with finely chased gilt bronze applications featuring phytomorphic motifs and a pair of mirror-image ram profiles. The structure of the piece is further enhanced by the use of "burled wood" for the lower band and for those interleaving the drawers, for the frame separating the lower and upper sections of the furniture, as well as for the upper cornice of the glazed part. The latter has a curvilinear and dynamic profile, with a summit finial, creating movement and lightening the overall architecture. The upper body is divided into compartments with shelves, accessible from two front glass doors and two side-opening doors. Here too, the keyhole escutcheons are decorated with chased gilt bronze featuring phytomorphic motifs and rams, all of smaller dimensions. The uprights are veneered in rosewood and decorated with rosewood stringing.
This trumeau can be used versatilely, as a sideboard, bookcase, or display cabinet, to be placed in various rooms such as dining rooms, studies, living rooms, bedrooms, or entrance halls.
