The proposed painting presents the portrait of a young girl with an intense gaze, presumably of aristocratic origins, given the extremely refined clothing and the exquisite jewelry she wears.
Of beautiful quality and conservation, the canvas shows the typical stylistic features related to the Caravaggesque painter Antiveduto Gramatica (Siena, 1571 - Rome, 1626) active in Rome in the first thirty years of the seventeenth century, being therefore able to attribute the work to an author of his prolific studio.
He is an artist able to produce works with an immediately recognizable stylistic imprint, combining Bolognese classicism, due to an interest in Domenichino, with Roman Caravaggism.
Gramatica was already an established artist around 1590, with important clients, such as Cardinal del Monte, between 1610 and 1619 at the Duke Ferdinando Gonzaga, and making use of valuable collaborators, first of all his son Imperiale Gramatica, a direct continuator of his father's models and very adherent to his style, although naturally more immature in his ways.
To confirm the proposed attribution, it is enough to compare our canvas with others by the master, famous for his monumental portraits characterized by a style of great visual impact, which anticipates the Baroque, often depicting hieratic and powerful figures, with a dramatic use of light and a strong realism.
As we can easily see by comparing our canvas with a series of works listed below, the portraits produced by Gramatica share, in fact, very similar physical types, especially the female ones, with their round and idealized faces, dressed in sumptuous clothes treated with delicacy. His powerful close-ups evoke the Caravaggesque models, with a clear design and lighting that shows strong contrasts, reaching an intensity of great impact.
