Refined and unique oil painting on canvas, in a carved, painted and gilded wooden frame. The painting depicts a scene from the New Testament regarding the moment when Saint John the Baptist publicly condemns Herod Antipas for having illegally married Herodias. The scene takes place in a palace, where the architecture can be seen (depicted according to the neo-Egyptian stylistic taste widespread at the time) and the city outside in perspective, while in the foreground on the left is depicted Saint John, with the cross in his hand, barefoot and in beggar's clothes, pointing at the king with his left hand. On the left is Herod, sitting on a rich throne, depicted thoughtful, while next to him is his wife Herodias with the crown, who puts a hand on his arm. Among the characters, on the side, there is a female figure intent on playing the harp. The stylistic rendering of the work can be appreciated, referring to the famous painting by Giuseppe Fattori. It is a painting of great taste and refinement, capable of giving a touch of class and elegance to any environment. Italian manufacture, from the school of Fattori, from the mid-19th century.
