Pair of Walnut Armchairs – Genoa, Mid-19th Century
Splendid and elegant pair of solid walnut and walnut burl armchairs, produced by Genoese workshops during the Louis Philippe period (around 1850).
The design perfectly combines the solidity of walnut wood with the refinement of the curved lines and carved decorations typical of the upper-middle-class taste of the era.
Technical and Constructive Details:
Backrest: Characterized by a richly shaped and openwork crest. The upper band features a valuable walnut burl reserve, surrounded by molded frames that create a very dynamic interplay of volumes. At the center stands an openwork carving.
Armrests: Splendidly curved in a "swan neck" or double volute shape, ending in an elegant sculpted curl. The connection of the armrest to the backrest is embellished with a refined acanthus leaf carving, a sign of high-quality craftsmanship.
Legs: The front legs are finely turned in a baluster shape with ring constrictions, resting on spinning top feet. The rear legs feature the classic "saber" line to ensure stability and momentum to the structure.
Materials: Structure in walnut with excellent patina; panels and reserves in walnut burl.
Condition:
The armchairs are in excellent structural condition. The French polish enhances the natural grain of the wood and the depth of the burl.
Seat: Currently covered with a light protective lining (white upholsterer's lining). They are ready to be customized with a final fabric of the buyer's choice.
