LARGE MONTELUPO MAJOLICA PLATE LATE 19TH CENTURY  Translated
Description:
Elegant large polychrome majolica display plate. The plate has a ring base and a historiated decoration on the front. The frame on the edge is characterized by geometric decorations, while in the center is depicted the "Massacre of the Innocents", an episode from the Gospel of Matthew, in which it is said that Herod, king of Judea, ordered the massacre of numerous children with the aim of killing the new "king of the Jews". In the depiction, therefore, against the backdrop of a city, mothers are represented with their newborn children, intent on escaping and defending themselves from the guards, who are intent on killing their children. It is a plate of great class and elegance, capable of giving a touch of antiquity and refinement to any environment. Manufacturing attributable to the production of Montelupo (Florence, Tuscany, Italy) of the late nineteenth century. Measures: H x DM 58 x 58cm  Translated
