Very rare service cabinet / small cupboard with lift-up top from the First Viennese Empire, from around 1800 - 1810. Its particular rarity lies not only in the craftsmanship, style and provenance, but also in the excellent condition and the valuable contained dimensions. This service cabinet is veneered in high-quality blond walnut feather. It is ebonized in smoke black in the details and inside, with a technique typical of the period and origin. Original caryatids and claw feet are carved and gilded with leaf. The claw feet are also lacquered in discreet Pompeian green, in vogue at the time following the archaeological discoveries whose echo spread throughout Europe. This particular detail distinguishes the most desirable and precious Viennese Empire furniture, mostly commissioned by the high nobility. To appreciate the quality of the furniture, observe how the master cabinetmaker of the time selected and cut the walnut veneers, which, as is very rare, naturally incorporate shades of green in perfect harmony with the lacquering of the feet. This very rarely happened in Europe for particularly high-quality walnut trees that grow in particular conditions and incorporate minimal amounts of chlorophyll in the trunk and branches. The highly appreciable measurements are 88 cm in height when closed (with the top open to its maximum extension, the piece of furniture measures 137 cm in maximum height). The maximum width is cm. 70.5. The maximum depth is 56.5 cm. The lower compartment, inside, is 65 wide and 48 deep. As described, the work is in museum condition of practical integrity, in the first patina, masterfully polished with shellac using museum-standard technique.
