Rare painted chest with marbled background from the second half of the 18th century, in admirable condition.
Description:
Rare painted chest with marbled background from the second half of the 18th century, in admirable condition, including the paint. Patina and signs of use consistent with its age. Minimal and localized pictorial integrations from a later period, expertly executed. Giant Mountains (Riesengebirge), likely second half of the 18th century. Less likely early 19th century. Measurements cm. 115x66 (max depth) height 75. Associable with another splendid contemporary and very similar cabinet of ours. Notes. This type of painted furniture, used in provincial and rural residences throughout Central Europe, including the Alpine region, from the 17th century or even earlier, are now, when they retain their original paint, very rare and sought after, mostly preserved in museums and prestigious private collections. In particular, this type called "marbled" or with a pictorial background that aims to imitate marble is the most desirable. Even the soft and pastel tones, almost reminiscent of the antique painted furniture of the Marche region, are among the rarest and most sought after. From the examination of the pictorial motifs and the technique used, it is possible to identify the region of original provenance (specifically the Giant Mountains).
In accordance with the provisions of the New Code of Cultural Heritage, the selling company provides, simultaneously with the sale, a detailed written photographic guarantee of originality and provenance of the works sold. The data with which the works are described and then contained in the written guarantees are expressed determinations resulting from accurate and documented technical/historical/artistic investigations, even of expert assessment.
