Rare Empire period bed, walnut burl veneer, ebonized columns, in practically intact condition, with a shellac finish applied with cotton wads using museum-standard technique on the original patina; slats made and prepared. Vienna 1810-1815. This piece can be upholstered to function as either a bed or a sofa, by creating comfortable cushions for the part placed along the wall. A refined, elegant, and sober period piece with a warm patina, also perfect for combination with high-end modern pieces for a look of great elegance and prestige.
