Rare walnut chest of drawers with lift-up top and writing desk. Central Italy, mid-17th century.
Description:
Today we offer an interesting and rare chest of drawers originating from the Umbria-Marche area, characterized by a particular lift-up top construction called a "scarabattolo", that is, the top lifts up halfway and inside there are numerous internal drawers and a space that was conveniently used for writing.
The three-drawer cabinet with its imposing, solid architectural construction, features floral carvings on the pilasters that lead to a finely carved element that acts as a pulvino and supports the metope integrated into the upper "scarabattolo". The sides also have double-order carved frames.
The cabinet is in excellent condition and without replaced elements, and we can date it to the mid-17th century.
The chest of drawers measures 145cm x 72cm in depth and 102cm in height.
If interested in purchasing, we will clean and wax polish the furniture.
A certificate of authenticity is attached to the sale.
