René Charles Edmond His (1877-1960) was born in Colombes near Paris, studied under academic masters: Jules Lefebvre, Henri Biva, Tony Robert-Fleury and Léon Tanzi. He became a member of the Société des Artistes Français as early as 1897.
He received awards: honorable mention in 1898, third-class medal in 1900, and also a mention on the occasion of the Exposition Universelle (1900). He is positioned closer to the academic and naturalistic tradition than to Impressionism or avant-garde movements.
