The faces of the protagonists, especially that of the blond and curly-haired Child, are absolutely unmistakable. The dark background, which Amigoni prefers, highlights the luminous complexions and accentuates the volume of the faces and bodies. At the end of his long and extraordinary career, he moved to Spain, to Madrid, and became court painter to Ferdinand VI. His workshop, which became famous especially in portraiture, produced a series of exquisite works with the Virgin as the protagonist. A strong Neapolitan influence acquired from Solimena and De Mura can be seen in his painting, as well as a Venetian painting vein matured during his stay in Venice.
