LARGE POLYCHROME MAJOLICA VASE JAFET TORELLI SECOND HALF 19TH CENTURY
Description:
Beautiful large amphora vase, in polychrome majolica with a white background. The vase features grotesque decorations on a blue and ochre background, a foot also decorated with grotesque motifs mounted on an octagonal base. The vase lid is adorned with a winged nude putto, dancing with his right leg raised and arms raised above his head, holding cymbals. Under the curl handles are two grotesque masks in high relief, while above the handles sit two winged putti, naked and with their legs crossed, one of whom plays a trumpet and the other a mandola. In the center of the vase, on both sides, are lively scenes with Venus and Cupid, depicted in an internal space and in an external environment near a river. Around these scenes are painted harpies and grotesques on a blue background. It is a vase of great elegance and workmanship, capable of furnishing any environment with class and refinement. Italian manufacture, produced by the atelier of Jafet Torelli in Florence, around the second half of the 19th century (1874-1898 ca.).
