View of Castel Sant'Angelo  Translated
Description:
"View of Castel Sant'Angelo with St. Peter's Basilica in the background" watercolor by Juan Jimenez Martin (Adanero 1855-Madrid 1901). He was a famous Spanish painter, specializing in historical scenes. He studied at the "Real academia de bellas artes de San Fernando in Madrid", under the guidance of important artists such as Federico de Madrado, Carlos Luis de Ribera and Carlos de Haes. In 1881 he was selected by the "Deputacion provincial de Avila" and was granted a stipend that allowed him to study abroad. He moved to Rome, where he received a scholarship to the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, where he remained from 1882 to 1886. Inspired by the works of Mariano Fortuny, he began to create orientalist paintings and visited various cities, including Florence, Naples and Venice, where he mainly created landscapes. Our watercolor dates back to the Roman period, is in perfect condition and is set in a gold-leaf gilded frame. Watercolor dimensions 24x41.5 with frame 37.5x55.5  Translated
