Pair of bronzed and gilt bronze lions. Period: Empire.
Description:
Pair of bronzed bronze lions placed on a gilt bronze base, the two majestic lions are sculpted in the act of roaring and proudly hold one of their front paws forward and their tail twisted around a hind paw. The lions, figures typically associated with pride and strength, are in bronzed bronze: this choice creates a strong contrast with the gilt bronze of the base that raises them up, as if to confirm their position of privilege. The base features a frieze, also in bronzed bronze, depicting a hunting scene composed of three female figures, equipped with bows and arrows, intent on killing a deer. On the front of the base is a coat of arms consisting of: an eagle with outstretched wings intent on supporting four trumpets while with its paws it clutches two quivers containing arrows. France. Period: Empire. HxLxP: 36x40x18 cm.
