Description:
Venetian armchair made of solid walnut, from the mid-18th century, in full Louis XV style.
The structure highlights the typical curved lines of the rocaille style, reworked here in an Italian key: the front legs are cabriole, with a sinuous movement that transmits movement and lightness, while the rear ones maintain the same harmonious curvature. The armrests, also shaped and connected naturally, follow a fluid design that dialogues with the softness of the overall line.
The backrest, high and curved in the upper part, has a central openwork carving with a stylized lyre motif, which gives verticality and elegance. The seat is in hand-woven rope, a detail which, in addition to guaranteeing solidity and functionality, recalls the tradition of Venetian manufactures intended for villa rather than palace contexts, where comfort was combined with a refined but sober taste.
This walnut armchair represents a significant example of 18th-century Venetian production: a piece of furniture that combines the formal dynamism of the Rococo with the concreteness and naturalness typical of the tradition.
