Description:
A refined set of six chairs, made of solid walnut, from the Louis XVI period (late 18th century), a typical example of the Venetian furniture tradition in the neoclassical style.
The structure, with its sober and regular lines, features truncated-pyramidal front legs carved with stylized floral motifs (rosette) in the connecting dies, while the rear ones are straight and simple. The backrest is punctuated by a linear frame and enriched by an elegant central element carved in the shape of a stylized lyre, typical of Venetian production of the period, which recalls the neoclassical ornamental lexicon and the purity of shapes inspired by antiquity.
The seats are made of woven Vienna straw, characteristic of fine furnishings that combined lightness and refinement. The use of walnut, warm and compact, gives chromatic balance and solidity to the structure.
This set retains its stylistic coherence intact and is a clear example of the sober and rational elegance that distinguished Venetian production in the second half of the 18th century, in dialogue with the aesthetic canons widespread throughout Europe under the reign of Louis XVI.
