The painting depicts Venus, on the left with bow and arrows, dressed in white, who appears to Aeneas and one of his companions, on the right in military attire, while traveling to Carthage after the fall of Troy.
The apparition of Venus aims to guide Aeneas and reassure him about his destiny and the founding of a new city.
