Lombard '700 Chalice Chest of Drawers
Description:
Rare Lombard Louis XV chalice-shaped chest of drawers from the early 18th century, measuring 86 x 129 x 63 cm, made of walnut, walnut burl, and ebonized frames.
This commode, dating back to the first thirty years of the 18th century, entirely veneered in walnut burl, is supported by thin saber legs whose contour continues in the curved apron on the front and sides; the sides, also covered in walnut burl and ebonized frames, are bombè.
The piece of furniture, with a very rare shape, strongly curved on the sides in the shape of a chalice and a slight central movement, is divided into three drawers with a small part in walnut that divides the drawers from each other and a meticulous, precise and particularly elaborate decoration with regard to the ebonized frames; Ebonized frames, walnut and walnut burl veneers skillfully laid give preciousness and magic to this splendid example of Lombard cabinet making, now impossible to find on the antique market.
On a clear symmetrical motif created by the grain of the wood, the finely chiseled bronze keyhole escutcheon stands out in the drawers. The same refined chasing is found in the slightly wavy handles.
Furniture of extraordinary elegance, refined, warm and undulating, comes from a private house in perfect condition.
