Polychrome wooden sculpture of Saint Michael the Archangel, Venetian area of the late 17th century.
Description:
Interesting polychrome wooden sculpture depicting the winged archangel Michael defeating the devil, skillfully sculpted by a Venetian sculptor from the period between the 17th and 18th centuries.
The polychromy is quite well preserved despite the age of the object and is of excellent pictorial quality, still presenting vivid colors. The motifs are red for the cloak and gold leaf gilding for the armor, and green, alternating with gold, for the hem of the saint's tunic. Other lacquers characterize the complexions and other details of the figures while maintaining a certain naturalistic fidelity to the composition. Equally beautiful is the figure of the devil, atrocious in the pain of his defeat.
The cleaning of the sculpture has highlighted the very well-preserved polychromy and gilding, especially highlighting the quality of the execution of the faces and the smallest details. The colors are original and have not been repainted.
The height measurement is 40 cm.
