Louis XVI Fall Front Desk (second half of the 18th century, circa 1770–1790)
Structure: rectilinear and geometric shape, with square section legs, typical of the Louis XVI neoclassical style.
Fall-front top: the upper front folds down to serve as a writing surface, concealing 3 drawers inside.
Inlay decorations:
On the upper fall front there is a decoration with volutes and floral motifs made with wood inlay.
In the lower drawers there is a prospective architectural scene decorated with an Italian garden, cypresses, paths and small human figures, obtained with the perspective inlay technique.
The choice of light and dark woods (probably walnut, maple, boxwood and burl) creates a refined chromatic effect.
Hardware: brass handles and keyhole escutcheons.
