Carpet woven by nomads from south-central Iran and known as Gabbeh. It was mainly used inside nomadic tents, woven by the women of the tribe for family use. They were discovered by curious travelers and brought to the West, where they are now famous and a collector's item, as I have done: this is part of my private collection, now for sale.
Hung vertically it becomes a tapestry of modern taste, but it is also very sturdy to use. It represents the tree of life with pomegranate fruits: a symbol of fertility and abundance. The background red is nuanced because the wools were dyed with vegetable substances.
