Antique hand-embroidered headdress and vest from the Sardinian costume of Desulo

Description: Antique and delightful vest with headdress (cuguddu) from the traditional Desulo costume made in the mid-1900s, in good condition. The Desulo costume, embroidered by the most skilled local artisans, is one of the best known in Sardinia (but there are many costumes, each more beautiful than the last). The Desulo costume is notable for its bright colors: the female costume was embroidered with dominant colors such as red, yellow, blue and green in homage to the four Barbarias. The Desulo costume consists of the following pieces: a finely embroidered red cloth cap (su cuguddu), a handkerchief embroidered with colored roses (su mucadore), a white shirt (sa camisa), a jacket (sa camisedda), an embroidered silk bust (is palettas), an embroidered red apron, with hints of blue ribbons (su saucciu). In the past, the women's costume was worn both inside the house during domestic activities and outside the house on important occasions.
