"The canvas, of exceptional quality, depicts the Florentine artist Gaetano Piattoli, as can be deduced from comparison with his numerous self-portraits preserved at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, which portray him both alone and in couple with his wife Anna Bacherini (Florence, 1720-1788), also a painter."
