Pencil drawing from the Atelier of Pierre-Auguste Brunet-Houard, a French artist born in 1827 in Saint-Maixent-l'École and who died in 1922 in Fontainebleau.
The drawing depicts a tired and bored lioness, probably seen by the artist in the Paris or London zoo or during an International Exposition.
Brunet-Houard worked on various artistic themes, particularly those related to animals. A resident of Fontainebleau, he also fought to protect its forest. After traveling in the Mediterranean basin, he wrote several memoirs at the end of his life.
