Description:
Exclusive cement votive plaque made at the end of the 19th century depicting a tender image of the Madonna with Child, an iconographic theme among the most widespread and beloved in the Christian tradition.
The work is modeled in bas-relief and finished with a sober polychromy now visibly patinated by time. The composition develops on an arched slab according to the tradition that recalls the popular votive shrines of central Italy, often placed near houses or along rural roads as an object of daily devotion.
The Virgin, veiled and with a sweet and melancholic gaze, holds the Baby Jesus in a gesture of maternal affection. Both figures are crowned with blue halos, a symbol of their sacredness.
The patina is partly worn and has some missing parts as shown in the photo.
