J. Dauvergne (XIX-XX), Diana hunting antelopes  Translated
Description:
J. Dauvergne (XIX-XX) Diana Hunting Antelopes Patinated and silvered bronze, 54 x 85 x 18 cm Signed on the base: J. Dauvergne Art Deco style sculpture made in France in the early decades of the 20th century by the French sculptor J. Dauvergne, as indicated by the legible signature on the onyx base on which the figure of Diana is set. The goddess of the hunt is captured in a dynamic pose as she is about to hurl her spear at two fleeing antelopes placed slightly further ahead of her; both the momentum of Diana's body and the pair of animals, caught as they leap forward, give considerable dynamism to the sculptural complex, which in addition to the flat base is completed by an emerging polyhedral surface made of different material than the one below. The different colors of the base, the dynamic plasticity, and the workmanship of the bronze, patinated and silvered, give preciousness and variety to the work, which demonstrates the taste of the period and style in using new and different techniques and materials, skillfully integrated and united in a single work despite their heterogeneity.  Translated
