REFINED MURANO GLASS CENTERPIECE, WITH "FILIGRANA" WORKMANSHIP BY PAULY - Fifties (New Entry)
Description:
Refined Murano glass centerpiece with filigree workmanship, one of the most elegant decorative techniques developed by Murano master glassmakers.
A technique conceived in Murano in the 16th century and particularly appreciated in the 19th century.
Notes:
Filigree and Smooth Cane Workmanship:
To perform this process, glass canes of equal size containing a single central thread of milk glass (as in our case) or colored glass are placed on a metal plate and heated until they reach melting temperature. This causes the canes to merge together, creating a single solid plate on which a "bolo" of transparent glass is rolled, which is then "marbled" and blown by the master, giving it a cylindrical shape, until all the canes adhere completely to each other. The cylindrical glass mass is then heated and "marbled" again and begins to be shaped by the master glassmaker into the desired form.
Murano: 1950s
Measurement: height cm. 21 diameter cm. 27.5
