Madonna and Child by Luigi Mantovani, oil on cardboard
Description:
Luigi Mantovani (Milan, 1880 – 1957) Madonna and Child Oil on cardboard, 34 x 29 cm Frame: 44 x 40 cm Signed lower right The examined painting, executed in oil on cardboard, a modern interpretation of the iconographic theme of the Madonna and Child, is signed by Luigi Mantovani (1880-1957). With loose, light, and nuanced brushstrokes, the artist evokes the sweetness of the maternal bond with an impressionistic touch, immersing the figures in a chromatic haze full of spirituality. The Virgin's face, enveloped in a blue mantle, stands out gently next to that of the Child, rendered with warm and vibrant colors. The composition is vibrant and enveloping, characterized by a palette of pastel tones and touches of luminous color that hint at the shapes rather than defining them, in full coherence with the artist's mature style. The work fits perfectly into the more lyrical strand of Luigi Mantovani's production, known primarily for his Milanese views and Lombard landscapes, but also the author of works on sacred and family themes. The pictorial style can be traced back to Mantovani's late period, when the stroke becomes more rarefied, almost ethereal, and the subject emerges from a vibration of light and color rather than a defined drawing. Biographical notes Luigi Mantovani was one of the protagonists of 20th-century Milanese painting. A student at the Brera Academy from 1896, he studied with Giuseppe Mentessi, Vespasiano Bignami, and Cesare Tallone, who particularly influenced him along with Carcano. He was able to develop a personal language, suspended between Impressionism and Divisionism. He participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennials and the Rome Quadrennials. His painting is distinguished by the intimacy of the subjects, the diffuse light, and a lyrical and contemplative vision of reality. 📝 All our works are accompanied by a detailed certificate of authenticity. 📦 Professional packaging and insured shipping to ensure maximum safety in transport. 📲 For further information, please do not hesitate to contact us +39 3335747733 – [email protected] 🔍 Possibility of VIDEO CALLS and direct viewings by appointment in MILAN and OMEGNA (Vb).
