Description: French Charles X secretary desk in precious exotic wood with maple inlay. The upper part consists of a drop-front concealing a day area designed as an arched letter holder compartment and, below, ink holder compartments. The drop-front top is covered with a layer of leather bordered by an elegant fire-gilded frieze. The lower body, much simpler in its construction, consists of two feet ending with a solid base. The interiors are in birdseye maple and still retain the original keys and locks of the period. The top is reclinable and is easily used as a storage compartment. Origin: France (1820/30).
