Neoclassical console in carved and lacquered wood, Milan, late 18th century
Description:
Neoclassical console in carved and lacquered wood, Milan, late 18th century Dimensions: cm W 109 x D 54 x H 85 Price: private negotiation Item accompanied by a certificate of authenticity This elegant console was made in the neoclassical period, in the second half of the 18th century in Milan. The structure is made of finely carved and polychrome lacquered wood. The top, with a molded profile, is painted in faux Fior di Pesco marble. The band under the top consists of a green lacquered frame and a second carved ovolo reserve, lacquered in shades of ivory and ocher. A large band runs along the perimeter; on the ivory backgrounds stand out carved garlands with polychrome phytomorphic and floral elements. In the center of the long side and near the corners, inside square green frames, are carved light flowers on a pinkish background. The band is delimited inferiorly by a carved green and ocher reserve. The four legs originate from a composite capital, composed of a crown of petals, conical and circular elements and palmettes, alternating in polychromy in shades of pink, green and ivory. The legs are fluted and truncated cone-shaped, green and ivory, and end with a carved wooden tip in the shape of large leaves that wrap around the foot. This console of contained and pleasing dimensions, very refined and highly decorative, thanks to a graceful balance between the carvings and the colors, can be easily placed in any environment, such as an entrance or a corridor, a living room or a study. Its characteristics also make it quite unusual and not easily found on the antiques market.
