Giuseppe Cherubini (Ancona 1867 – Venice 1960) - Painting on canvas with scenes from the Carnival of Venice  Translated
Dimensions: : 129 cm,: 158 cm
Description:
Oil and gold on canvas, 129X158 cm. Signed lower left. This work offers a fascinating carnival scene against the backdrop of a Venetian view, attributable to the production of the 1920s and 1930s. This temporal placement is reflected in the unmistakable reference to similar works: just think of the Venetian panels of the Caffè Martini or those that decorate the walls of the Caffè Aragno in Rome. This painting represents the reinterpretation, in the form of commedia dell'Arte, of the Judgment of Paris where Harlequin with Pulcinella shows the apple of discord to three maidens, who dress in the guise of Hera, Aphrodite and Athena. The scene demonstrates, once again, how Cherubini was accustomed, at the same time, to propose two interpretations in the same subject "The serious and the facetious".
