Among all the highly sought-after Heriz rugs, the oldest and most refined examples, about 150 years old, have been identified as "Serapi," probably because they were produced in the small village of Sarab. The dimensions are generally large and the layout is highly scenic, characterized by geometric designs and pastel colors, with a range that varies from turquoise to light yellow, from terracotta to ivory white: characteristics that have met the taste of interior designers all over the world, making these artefacts highly sought after. Another peculiarity is given by the central medallion, often decorated with flowers and leaves, always rendered in a geometric way, combined with corner elements designed with autonomous figures, which almost never repeat the motifs of the medallion itself. The rug is in the current visible condition consistent with the period and signs of use and limited reductions in the thickness of the pile. Localized previous conservative restorations.
