Description:
LEONOR FINI (Buenos Aires, 1908 – Paris, 1996) Portrait, 1928 Oil on panel, cm 71x63 Exhibitions: Exhibition of Painters Leonora Fini, Arturo Nathan, Carlo Sbisà – Galleria Milano, Milan, from January 1 to 15, 1929 (Cat. N.9) Leonor Fini Peintre du fantastique Panorama Museum, Bad Bad Frankenhausen, November 22, 1997 – March 1, 1998, fig 1, page 9 In 1927, Leonor Fini moved from Trieste, where she lived with her mother, to Milan. The dating of the painting, exhibited in January 1929 at the Galleria Milano, should therefore be reviewed and repositioned with respect to the previous publication. In Milan, she came into contact with Carrà, De Chirico, and especially Funi, whose influence is clear in the portrait presented here. The return to order dominates the atmosphere of the painting, and a glimpse of the Sforza Castle clearly reveals the origin of the work. Fini's painting, which would soon make her an internationally renowned artist, underwent the changes and moods of its creator, but it was always unique and often defined as 'supernatural'.  Translated
