Timoleon Lobrichon (1831 Cornod – 1914 Paris) The young fisherman.
Description:
Timoleon Lobrichon (1831 Cornod – 1914 Paris)
The young fisherman.
Oil on canvas. Relined.
Vibrant portrait of a young fisherman in a moment of rest, in which the artist's sensitivity and pictorial quality contribute to creating wonderful details such as the streaks of water on the feet and their reflections, the gleam of the button near the red scarf around his waist, the soft clothes and the ribbon of the collar that falls delicately on the blouse like the line of the bamboo fishing rod. The hands and feet are very well executed, in their delicacy.
The hair, the still tender expression of the face, represent an overall sweetness that fits perfectly into a naturalistic and romantic context, in a perfect fusion of the whole with great artistic skill.
Signed lower right "T. Lobrichon" and dated "1878".
Lobrichon was born on April 26, 1831 in Cornod. He was a pupil of Picot and was awarded medals in 1868 and 1882. In 1883 he became a member of the Legion of Honor.
