Splendid Christ in gilded bronze - Florence - Circle of Pietro Tacca (Carrara 1577- Florence 1640)

This bronze artifact depicting the "Crucifixion of Jesus" shows a remarkable quality of execution and comes from a bronze foundry workshop in late Renaissance Florence. The physiognomic characterization of the figure is proportionally executed according to austere canons, tending towards a realistic and natural representation of the masses, and still shows mannerist tendencies. The face of the suffering Christ is depicted with a certain attention to detail, especially concerning the hair and facial features, which are somewhat worn by votive use. The loincloth is well executed and is characterized by the wide knot that leaves the Christ's left hip exposed and by the granular decoration.
