Small inlaid and veneered wooden chest of drawers, France, mid-18th century
Description:
Small inlaid and veneered wooden chest of drawers, France, mid-18th century. Dimensions: cm W 80 x D 49 x H 86 Price: confidential negotiation Item accompanied by our certificate of authenticity The small chest of drawers was made in France around the mid-18th century. With a Rosso Francia marble top with a slightly curved and molded profile, it is veneered in precious wood and inlaid in bois de rose. On the front, two drawers are decorated with wooden inlays inscribed within a mixtilinear frame and set against a bois de rose background, on which lighter woods and inlays depicting floral ornaments and green wood leaflets stand out. The drawer pulls and keyhole escutcheons are in gilded bronze, chiseled with rocaille motifs. Gilded bronze applications also embellish the front in the band below the two drawers and, above, on the uprights. The sides are also veneered and decorated with inlays that create floral still lifes. The four legs are slightly arched; an inlaid thread marks the edge, bringing brightness and lightness. The feet are embellished with chiseled gilded bronze ferrules with rocaille motifs. The interior of the furniture is made of oak wood. This refined piece of furniture can easily be placed in multiple environments, from entrances and corridors to living rooms and studies. It can also be used as a bedside table in a bedroom. The furniture requires conservative restoration which, if requested, we can have done. Underneath the top, there is a handwritten and barely legible paper label, presumably referring to a previous property in Fontainebleau.
