Oil on canvas. In the beautiful composition, a basket full of cherries, some scattered on the surface, and a plate full of red currants, mixed with leaves and some cherry blossoms, are seen resting on a carved wooden credenza. A goldfinch rests on the handle of the basket; framing the composition, on the right a large bouquet of colorful flowers in a vase, on the left a red drape. The bright colors of the fruits, flowers, and curtain stand out, while the supporting furniture blends into the dark background, as does the bird, distinguishable from the dark background only by the white plumage on its wings and the red outline of its eyes. The work falls within the broad Emilian production of the 17th century of this type of highly decorative subject. The restored and relined painting has a marked crackle and color loss along the edges.
