Beautiful pair of "portapalmette" altar vases in gilded wood, made with the silver and mixtion technique, Louis XVI period, Sicilian cabinet-making production. Made of finely carved Swiss pine wood, the vases are worked in the round, have a circular base and are all carved over most of them in the shape of acanthus leaves, small roses and fluted sections, with a pine cone final part where the palmettes were to be inserted on its top. They were used in ancient times and placed on altars as decoration and palmettes were inserted in the upper part, made of various materials such as fabric, micro-beads, etc., which symbolized the victory and majesty of Christianity.
