PAIR OF RETOUR D'EGYPT CONSOLES WITH WINGED GRIFFINS, LATE 18TH CENTURY
Description:
Important pair of Retour D'Egypte period consoles from the late 18th century, of Sicilian origin. They feature a sober and elegant line with a slightly flared upper band, with inlay in the central part and profiled in the final part. The upper part is supported in the back by squared wooden axes and in the front by two finely carved zoomorphic figures depicting winged griffins, resting on a squared base which in turn rests on two large onion-shaped feet. The consoles were all made of apricot veneer and solid wood. The elegance and high quality of the carving work performed by the Sicilian cabinetmakers who created them at the time should be highlighted. The consoles are in excellent condition and have been restored with conservative restoration personally by us, in our restoration laboratory.
