Rare set of six chairs by Jakob and Josep Kohn of Vienna from the last third of the 19th century. The chairs are in practically intact condition and in patina; the restoration has been conservative, carried out according to the rules of ancient art with a shellac finish, on the first evident patina consistent with the period. The wood is steam-bent beech. With original labels and stamps of the manufacture (see photos). Delightful seat with impressed eclectic motifs of Renaissance, Baroque and Jugendstil Art Nouveau style on the backrest from the Viennese Secession. Measurements Backrest height cm. 89 Seat height cm. 46 Depth cm. 45 Width cm. 40.5 History of the Kohn manufacture. Jacob & Josef Kohn, also know as J. & J. Kohn, were furniture and interior designers from Vienna. Jacob Kohn together with his son Josef Kohn founded the company in 1849. They then became among the main furniture manufacturers in Austria/Bohemia and the main competitors of Gebrüder Thonet. The Kohn manufacture collaborated with artists of the Wiener Werkstätte and also with Josef Hoffmann in the design of many pieces. Kohn received many awards. He obtained special recognition from the Spanish royal house also as their special suppliers. Kohn's works can be admired in important museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
