Austria, around 1770. Wonderful chest of drawers with hutch, in German called Aufsatzkommode, a practical piece of furniture typical of Austrian culture, used as a sideboard or serving table. The glazed hutch with inlaid rosettes and carved acanthus motifs, typical of the period, rests on a charming chest of drawers inlaid with festoons and geometric motifs, with a clear neoclassical style. The cabinet is made of solid oak, with maple and stained maple inlays. The work, in practically intact condition with original hardware, is in its original patina with a shellac finish applied with a pad using a museum-standard technique.
