Description:
Antique and delightful Anglo-Indian display table (43x30 cm; h.70 cm) made in India during the English rule around the second half of the 19th century: a mix of Indian fantasy and Victorian rigor (photo #7). Entirely decorated with inlaid geometric bone plate inclusions and hand-carved and ebonized wood: frontally there is a small secret drawer 3 cm high (photo #10). Between the display case and the lower pagoda-style shelf (26 cm from the ground), there are four turned columns with vertical pods (photo #7) ending in splendid feet with wavy ends among which elegant sculpted leafy elements (photo #6). Being a display case table, the upper part is hinged and finished with a ground glass (36x21 cm) inside a pagoda-style frame also 10 cm wide. This is an uncommon work, of great mastery, also for the presence of many parts finished in micromosaic: these works are linked to the Indian district of the city of Vizagapatam, formerly a crossroads of commercial traffic between Europe and the East. Having been recently restored, it is in excellent condition.
