Description:
Pair of lacquered and gilded wooden armchairs, Genoa, mid-18th century, Rococo period Dimensions: cm W 67 x D 73 x H 106.5. Seat H 45 cm Price: confidential negotiation Item accompanied by a certificate of authenticity This elegant pair of armchairs was made in Genoa around the mid-18th century, during the Rococo period. Each armchair is made of wood lacquered in shades of ochre, gilded, and sculpted with typical rocaille decorations and floral elements. The backrest has wavy and mixtilinear sides. It culminates in a gilded decoration with vegetal motifs centered by a rose. The armrests are wavy and decorated with a carving in the shape of a gilded leaf, and connect with the seat. The wavy under-seat band features a gilded floral decoration again. The legs, wavy and curved, are carved to reproduce the type of rocaille ornament with phytomorphic elements. The pair of armchairs, recently upholstered in blue velvet, are of beautiful proportions, easily adaptable to any environment, whether combined with antique furnishings or contemporary furniture. The brilliance of the gold, enhanced by the carvings and moldings, reinforces the movement of the wooden parts, creating chromatic effects and conferring great overall decorativeness. The armchairs are in good condition and will soon undergo a conservative restoration.
